Once upon a time, there was a lady named Mak Anjeng who lived at Aljunied Crescent and was the best friend of the Arab family on level four. This recipe was passed down to my aunt as a way to supplement her income. From one generation to the next, it has continued to provide sustenance.
To honor Mak Anjeng's memory, I named this spice Emba's Biryani, a playful twist on the word Mbah.
